Facebook ad account disabled: what to do

    August 28, 20269 min

You open Ads Manager at nine in the morning and instead of statistics you see a red banner: advertising account disabled. Campaigns are stopped, yesterday's leads were the last ones, and there is no explanation beyond a link to a policy page. If your Facebook ad account has been disabled, the worst thing you can do right now is start frantically creating a new account on the same payment card. Below is a calm plan for the first 24 hours and, more importantly, an answer to the question that actually costs money: what will keep selling for your business while the ban is in place?

First, work out what exactly was blocked

An "ad account ban" is four different situations with different consequences. Identify yours before you write an appeal:

What is blocked How it looks How critical
Ad account "Ad account disabled" in Ads Manager, campaigns stopped Medium: the business portfolio is alive, another account is possible within the rules
Business portfolio (Business Manager) You lose access to all assets at once High: every ad account inside it goes down too
Page or Instagram account Organic reach gone, ads rejected High: you lose both paid and free traffic
Personal admin profile The person themselves cannot log in Critical: business assets are only reachable through other admins

The second thing to do before appealing is to find the formal reason. The most common ones: a creative promising results ("lose 10 kg in a week"), a restricted category (medicine, finance, supplements), a sharp budget jump on a young account, a new payment card, several people working from different countries and devices, or user complaints about your ads. Sometimes there is no reason at all — an automated classifier simply fired.

The first 24 hours: a checklist

Hour 0–1. Document the state. Screenshot the banner, the account status and the Account Quality page in Meta Business Suite. Export the stats of your active campaigns for the last 30 days — CTR, cost per lead, best-performing creatives. You will need this both for the appeal and to move the budget quickly.

Hour 1–2. File the appeal — once. Appeals go through Account Quality: pick the disabled asset and click "Request review". Write briefly, to the point and without emotion: who you are, what you sell, what you were advertising, why you believe the block is a mistake. One appeal per asset. Ten repeated requests do not speed up the review — they clog the queue.

Hour 2–4. Remove the triggers. Pause the campaigns that could plausibly have broken the rules. Check your links: the ad must not lead to a page on a different domain, through a redirect, or to content that the ad never mentioned. Tidy up the site — a contacts page, a privacy policy and honest delivery terms.

Hour 4–24. Move the budget. This is the step most businesses skip. The money that was meant for Meta should not sit idle on an account — it should work in channels that do not depend on someone else's moderation.

What you must not do: create a new business portfolio on the same card and the same details, register an account in a relative's name, or buy a so-called agency account. Meta links accounts by payment details, device and IP — this is the shortest path from a temporary ban to a permanent one.

How long the ban lasts and what it costs

An automated decision is sometimes reversed within a day. The realistic range for a small business is anywhere from a few days to several weeks, and some accounts are never restored. Plan for the pessimistic scenario.

Do the downtime maths honestly. If you spent 15,000 UAH a month and got 60 leads, that is 250 UAH per lead and two leads a day. Two weeks of silence means 28 lost leads. With an average order of 1,200 UAH and a 30% close rate, that is roughly 10,000 UAH of revenue you never earned — more than it costs to keep a parallel channel running all year.

What keeps selling while the account is banned

In order of how fast you can launch:

    1. Google Business Profile and search. Your Google Maps listing works without Meta's moderation. Update hours, services and photos, and ask regulars for reviews.
    2. Your own database. Viber and Telegram broadcasts, email, customers in your CRM. Repeat sales are the cheapest ones — we covered the mechanics in the piece on advertising for repeat visits.
    3. Partnerships nearby. A neighbouring business with the same audience, cross-promotions, joint offers.
    4. Indoor screens in venues. A channel with no Meta moderation, no auction, and no risk that everything switches off overnight.

The key mistake after a ban is looking for "a second Facebook". You put the whole budget back into one platform with the same rules. Diversification means a channel with a different logic: not an auction in a feed, but a physical place where your audience spends time.

HostAd: a channel that cannot be banned

HostAd runs digital screens inside Kyiv's craft coffee shops and bars. There are 28 locations in the network right now: Podil, Pechersk, Obolon, the Shevchenkivskyi and Holosiivskyi districts, and Borshchahivka. The format is a 10–20 second video or static frame in a loop on a screen in the room, where a person sits with a coffee for 20–40 minutes rather than scrolling a feed at three posts a second.

Why it works as insurance against a ban:

    • No platform moderation that can switch you off overnight. The creative is approved once before launch under Ukrainian advertising law — then it runs for the whole paid month.
    • Transparent owner pricing. The price is visible before you book: from 40 to 90 UAH per cyclic second of display per month. For a 10-second spot that is roughly 400–900 UAH a month per screen — a full test for the price of a single day of Meta spend.
    • Monthly booking, no contract. Account banned — you take a month. Account restored — you are free not to renew.
    • No agency, no proposals by email. Pick a location on the map, upload the creative, pay online. From sign-up to on air: hours.
    • Measurability. A QR code in the creative with UTM tags shows scans and clicks; we broke down how to count them in the guide to QR codes in indoor advertising.

The audience is different in quality, too. The ZHNYVA coffee shop on Pavlivska, for example, sees around 9,000 visitors a month: students, freelancers and office workers in the centre. Beer&Cool in Borshchahivka has an evening neighbourhood crowd. These are people who live and work within a few blocks of your business.

If the budget for a parallel channel is tight right now, start with a minimum test — we described the logic of such a launch in the 1,000 UAH campaign case.

    How to avoid a repeat

A ban is not an accident, it is a statistic: sooner or later it happens to everyone who buys Meta ads at volume. Account hygiene lowers the odds but never removes them.

    • Keep a second administrator with separate access, so that blocking one profile does not take every asset with it.
    • Do not change the card or login country abruptly, and do not triple the budget in a single day.
    • Keep backups of creatives, audiences and campaign structures outside the platform.
    • The one-channel rule: no single channel should deliver more than 50–60% of your leads. If Meta is 90% of your sales, you are not an advertiser — you are a tenant of someone else's infrastructure.
    • Keep one permanent offline channel running all year. It is cheaper than an emergency launch mid-crisis and builds recognition that no algorithm controls. A comparison of the two approaches is in our breakdown of outdoor advertising vs Facebook Ads.

    In short

If your Facebook ad account has been disabled: document the state, file one appeal in Account Quality, remove the triggers, and do not create a clone account. Then move the budget into channels that do not depend on someone else's moderation — and do not put 100% of it back into Meta once the ban is lifted.
